About ACOG weight gain guidelines
The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommends different weight gain targets based on your pre-pregnancy BMI. These guidelines apply to singleton pregnancies — if you're carrying twins or multiples, your provider will give you a separate target.
Most weight gain occurs in the second and third trimesters, when baby is growing rapidly. In the first trimester, 1 to 4.5 pounds is typical.
